Magic Fun Shop by Adam Wallacavage
Photographs taken at Magic Fun Shop Philadelphia, PA between 1995 - 2005
Design by Clark Allen
Magic Fun Shop collects Adam Wallacavage's photographs made between 1995 and 2005, which provide an indescribable journey inside Philadelphia’s mysterious Magic Fun Shop. The book introduces us to Ed 'Doc' Turner a hoarder of magic tricks, halloween masks and novelties. Doc maintained his dungeon of boxes, occult supplies and melting latex for well over 50 years. Aware of the incredible and shocking collection of mystifying curiosities, Wallacavage captures the dusty, idiosyncratic history of Magic Fun Shop with unnerving detail. Each image is a step into a long shuttered world of strange wonders and long forgotten oddities.
Adam Wallacavage is an American artist renowned for his surreal and highly ornate octopus chandeliers. Wallacavage's chandeliers have been showcased in galleries worldwide, including São Paulo, Rome, London, Miami, Los Angeles, Vienna, and New York. Beyond his sculptural work, Wallacavage is also an accomplished photographer with images appearing in Thrasher, Transworld Skateboarding and Slap. His first book, "Monster Size Monsters," published by Gingko Press in 2006, documents fifteen years of his photographic work. Magic Fun Shop is his first publication with Secret Headquarters and Apologies Press.
